GasFindIR Training Course
This course is intended for users of the FLIR Systems, Inc. GasFindIR infrared camera. Skilled users of the new GasFindIR camera can inspect over 3,000 connections per day. Current sniffer technology is limited to about 500 connections per day.
Students will learn how to setup and operate the GasFindIR. They will learn how to optimally adjust their GasFindIR for varying environmental conditions to find gas leaks. Students will learn under what environmental conditions gas leaks are most easily found, somewhat easy to find, and difficult to find.
The class will teach students what gases can be found with the GasFindIR and leak size limitations. Some basic infrared theory and heat transfer concepts will be introduced to build a strong foundation for the students. No class can cover every circumstance, so an understanding of how the GasFindIR works and what makes for optimum environmental conditions is essential.
Lab and/or field practice in finding leaks is a key part of this class. Students will learn by doing and by observing numerous videos of leaks what to look for including thermal contrast, gas plume motion, distance limitations, etc. Basic inspection procedures will be covered including equipment checkout, route planning, permitting requirements, safety practices/equipment and reporting concepts.
Upon successful completion of the course, including passing a closed-book written exam, students will receive a training certification for GasFindIR usage.
Prerequisites: None Tuition: $1950.00 USD Duration: 3 days
Other: Classes run from 8:00 AM through 5:00 PM

Thermal Imaging for Energy Audits Course Description
This 2 day course is intended to give the student the knowledge base necessary to perform IR surveys of residences, primarily single family homes, to identify weatherization issues. The class covers basic IR camera operation, image downloading and basic report generation, fundamentals of IR science and heat transfer, use with other testing such as blower doors, techniques, tips and tricks for weatherization IR surveys and application examples.
A good weatherization IR survey can identify thermal anomalies that indicate missing insulation and insulation defects due to damage, moisture and improper installation. The IR survey can also provide indication of potential areas of imminent condensation, moist or wet areas as well as air infiltration and exfiltration, especially when used in conjunction with blower door testing. IR surveys can also find duct leaks when used with duct pressurization testing. Documentation with IR images is a key feature of IR thermography for weatherization. The course covers the caveats and environmental conditions necessary for a successful weatherization IR survey, as well as pitfalls to avoid.
Course Objectives: To provide an understanding of IR thermography for application in Building Weatherization and understand caveats and pitfalls that can present challenges
